Dr. Diane Boze

Degrees:

Ph.D. in Art History - University of Kansas, Lawrence; M.A. in Art History - University of Kansas, Lawrence; Master of Liberal Studies (History, Literature, Art History) - University of Oklahoma, Norman; B.A. in International Affairs - Texas Christian University, Fort Worth;

Interests:

Dr. Boze has a specialization in 19-century European art and a long, deep interest in world cultures, fostered through studying the Spanish, French, Russian and German languages; a summer in the south of Chile as a foreign exchange student in high school; concentrating on International Affairs for her B.A.; living in Quito, Ecuador, over a year with a Fulbright-Hayes grant researching regional economic integration; and receiving a Master's of Liberal Studies at the University of Oklahoma with a concentration in literature, history, and art history.  She then received a Rotary grant to study art history for a year at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain.  Enjoying how art history provides a wonderful gateway to all cultures, periods, and peoples, she continued art history studies at the University of Kansas, where she received a University Fellowship to complete a Master's and a doctorate in the discipline, returning to Spain to research her dissertation.   While at NSU she also received grants to study Chinese, Japanese, and Korean culture, with the grant that focused on the Korean culture including a three-week workshop, with two weeks traveling in South Korea.

She is especially interested in advancing and promoting the teaching by instructors and the learning of students, publishing for example in Interdisciplinary Humanities: “Lessons from the Non-Hermit:  Valuing Korea,” an article directed towards helping the non-expert teach or learn about Korea, and in The Journal of Art Historiography “Creating History by Re-creating the Minoan Snake Goddess,” which encourages questioning the assumptions and creations of histories.

NSU awarded her the Circle of Excellence in Teaching, the highest teaching honor at her university.
