The Confucius Classroom at Northeastern State University is a program within the Language and Cultural Center that works jointly with the University of Oklahoma’s Confucius Institute, Hanban, and the People’s Republic of China to offer courses and events that promote Chinese language and culture to students of NSU and the surrounding community.  Through these programs we hope to impart a better understanding of the rich history and deeply rooted language of this intriguing culture. Utilizing language, music, art and cuisine the Confucius Classroom plans to offer exciting workshops, events and unique experiences to all of Northeast Oklahoma. Chinese for Beginners I

This class welcomes students with no Chinese background whatsoever

Date: Wednesdays, Jan. 22-Feb. 26
Time: 6– 8:30 p.m.
Location: NSU Broken Arrow Campus

Chinese for Beginners II

For students with minimum experience of Chinese but know phonic Pinyin or who have finished the Chinese for Beginners I course

Date: Wednesdays, Mar. 5- Apr. 16 (Campuses closed Mar. 17-21 for Spring Break)
Time: 6– 8:30 p.m.
Location: NSU Broken Arrow Campus

Chinese Culture and Language

This class is designed for those who are interested in learning beginning Chinese culture and language. The class will include 1) How to use the pinyin system (pronunciation), 2) How to read and write characters, 3) Daily expression, 4) Numbers up to 100, 5) Twelve Chinese Zodiacs, 6) Family members, 7) Hobbies and 8) Weather. The lessons will incorporate the four major Chinese holidays: Chinese New Year, Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival. With stories, songs, and fun games to illustrate concepts and contents, the class will be applicable for 11 years old and up and also adults; parents with child enrolling in the class will receive a 10% discount.

For students with some experience on Chinese speaking & listening or who have finished Beginners II class

For students with fair background on Chinese or who have finished Intermediate Chinese I
