Introduction to Management
This course helps managers gain or improve skills that will enhance productivity, reduce stress, improve relations with team members, and prepare for increased responsibilities. Definitions of management are discussed along with management styles and indicators of bad management. Core management task skills to be introduced include: stress management; planning and organizing; goal setting; scheduling work and activities; coordinating work and activities of others; monitoring processes, materials, or surroundings; decision making and problem solving; effective communication; time management; delegating; managing innovation and change. Core management people skills to be introduced include: establishing trust; team building; interviewing and selection; building relationships; teamwork; motivating and influencing others; managing expectations; managing conflict; developing self and others; monitoring and evaluating performance.
