The department offers a bachelor of arts degree in General Psychology with a core of 25 credit hours and 17 credit hours are selected by the student from a list of upper level electives.

Graduate Programs:

Graduate programs include programs in counseling psychology, school counseling, and substance abuse counseling. The master of science in counseling psychology (61 credit hours) prepares students for a counseling career or for further advanced study. The program familiarizes students with the use of scientific thought and principles as applied to the practice of professional counseling. Graduates demonstrate competence in the areas of psychological assessment, and mental health counseling. This rigorous and unique program includes a 600 clock hour supervised internship experience. This program meets or exceeds the educational requirements for becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Oklahoma as well as most other states.

The master of education degree in school counseling (49 credit hours) prepares students for Oklahoma school counselor certification (K-12) Graduates are prepared in the core areas of counseling theories, group and individual counseling techniques, human development, developmental guidance, career counseling, assessment and appraisal, and principles and administration of guidance services. Candidates must also complete relevant field experiences.

The master of science in substance abuse counseling program prepares students for careers in professional substance abuse counseling. The course work is sequenced and departmental permission is required for enrollment in some courses. This rigorous and unique program includes a 300 clock hour supervised internship experience. The master of science in substance abuse counseling program meets or exceeds the educational requirements for becoming a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor and in Oklahoma. A new cohort of students begin the program each fall semester.
