When are applications due for graduate programs?

They are due December 31st. 

 

What all needs to be included in the applications?
A packet is availble for each program which includes all needed documents. 
 

Do I really need to take the GRE?
Yes, it is required. The cutoff is 900 overall score.

           

When is the Capstone project due and when should I sign up with my first reader?
This should be done two semesters before you plan to graduate. A second reader will be used after approval from the first reader. After approval from both, the capstone may be submitted.

           

How do we get in contact with agencies to do an internship?
The semester before internship, a class that is required in the program is agency counseling. During this course, finding an internship, requirements, and where to look will be revealed.

           

When should I talk with my advisor? How often?
You will have to schedule a meeting before beginning the program. This will be to go over different types of paperwork. Meet with your advisor as often as you need, but pay attention to office hours on the professor's scheduled or sylabus. You should at least meet with your advisor once a semester.

           

How do I get involved in research?
All professors are interested in some area of psychology with specific populations. At Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow, the professor's in the Psychology and Counseling department are diverse in interests. Discuss your interest of research with your advisor, or locate the professor in the area of psychology that most interests you. Many events allow students to show their research, such as Oklahoma Research Day.

           

LPC procedures and hours are?
The Graduate Programs in Counseling all meet the state requirements for licensure. For the LPC 600 hours of internship are required (an additional 300 hours can be done instead of writing the capstone). For licensure requirements, LPC eligibility has a minimum of 3000 hours of supervision. For LADC a 300 hour internship is needed.
           

How does the exit exam work? What does my Practicum II class have to do with it?
A requirement for Graduates in Counseling/Psychology, is that they pass the exit exam (CECP) or have received an A grade in Practicum II.

           

Can a student in school counseling become LPC eligible?
Yes, but they must take additional course work which does not earn another degree. This allows the student to become LPC eligible.
