All undergraduates in good academic standing who are engaged in Research or Creative Activity under the direction of a Faculty Member are eligible and invited to participate (as long as they are currently enrolled in NSU, or graduate no earlier than December 2010). Students may apply in one of three categories: Outstanding Scholar, Poster Presenter, or Panel Discussion. Applications for Outstanding Scholar will be evaluated by a Screening Committee made up of Faculty from the Student's College who will choose one Outstanding Scholar and one runner-up from each College; the Outstanding Scholars will then be asked to give an oral presentation at Undergraduate Research Day. Applications that are not chosen for Outstanding Scholar will be automatically entered into the Poster Presenter category. Applications for Poster Presenter and Panel Discussion will also be evaluated by Screening Committees to insure that only quality projects that do not duplicate other work and which conform to appropriate ethical standards are presented.
All students who present projects at Undergraduate Research Day will receive a certificate of participation. Outstanding Scholars will receive a cash prize and a trophy; additional cash prizes will be awarded for Best Poster Presenter and for other presentations and categories if funds are available. Projects from all fields of study are eligible.

Deadline for receipt of application materials: 12:00 noon Thursday March 24, 2011 (the Thursday after Spring Break)

Northeastern State University Urban Institute for Effective Teaching
The Northeastern State University Urban Institute for Effective Teaching is a program designed to collaboratively pair beginning teacher candidates with top performing urban schools in Tulsa Public School District. This program focuses on a cadre of caring, committed, and creative individuals who want to teach specifically in urban schools. This “out of the box” approach to becoming a teacher allows the selected candidates to immerse themselves in college coursework at the urban school site. The teacher candidates join theory with practice and apply knowledge during their initial internship experience.
