Human and Family Sciences is the new name for a program known as Home Economics, which traces its origins to the 1840s. As the profession evolved, the program's name changed to reflect that evolution, switching to Human Environmental Science, Human Ecology, and Family and Consumer Sciences. As the profession continued to grow and change, Northeastern State University selected Human and Family Sciences to reflect a more contemporary name for this important degree program.
Human and Family Sciences at NSU focuses on an integrative approach to the reciprocal relationships among individuals, families, and communities, as well as the environments in which they function.
