Residency

Residency Categories

Oklahoma Resident Students
A resident of Oklahoma is one who has lived continuously in the state for at least 12 months duration and whose domicile is in Oklahoma. A person’s domicile is his true, fixed, permanent home or habitation.  It is the place where he intends to remain and to which he expects to return. A person can have more than one residence, but only one domicile.  Domicile has two components-residence and the intention to remain. When these two occur, there is a domicile.

The burden of proof of established Oklahoma residence or domicile, including providing any supporting documentation, shall be upon the applicant.  Since residence of domicile is a mater of intent, each case will be judged on its own merit by the appropriate institutional official(s) consistent with policy. No definitive or “magic” set of criteria can be established as sufficient to guarantee classification as a resident of Oklahoma.

Out-of-State Students
If you live outside of Oklahoma, your classification will be an out-of-state student.

International Students
If you have been admitted to the United States on a temporary, Non-resident status, you are classified as an international student.

If a change of residency status is approved by the published deadline date each semester and the student is eligible for a refund, the difference between the previous residency status and the new residency status shall be refunded. No Petition for Change of Residency Forms will be considered after the published deadline date.

It is a violation of College policy to present false documentation. Registrar staff will occasionally verify the validity of the documents presented as proof of residency. NSU reserves the right to make the final decision on residency eligibility.
