MSN Program Mission
To provide educational mobility and preparation at the graduate level to qualified registered nurses. The MSN program directly addresses the need for masters prepared nurses in the state and region that the University serves. The nursing faculty is committed to excellence in developing masters prepared nurses.
MSN Program Goals

MSN End-of-Program Student Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of the program, the student will:
- Create collaborative partnerships with health care colleagues in selected nursing roles.
- Synthesize specialized knowledge and theories from nursing and other disciplines into advanced nursing practice.
- Apply expanded research knowledge, critique skills and evidenced based practice relevant to advanced nursing practice.
- Demonstrate leadership in nursing practice to initiate change and to improve the quality, safety, and outcomes for individuals, populations, and systems.
- Value social, cultural, political, legal, and ethical influences that impact nursing practice.
- Manage information, technology, and resources effectively.
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for professional nursing practice and lifelong learning.
The 32-credit hour program is 100% online and includes a practicum of 120 hours which can be completed over multiple semesters. At the time of enrollment, students will select MSN as their major and then select a program concentration of either nursing education, administrative leadership in nursing, or nursing informatics.
The minimum time required to complete the program is three academic semesters (10 months), provided the student meets all other Program, Graduate College, and University requirements. Each course is 7-weeks in length. Students working full-time typically complete the program in 6 semesters (two years). Students may take a maximum of six years to complete the program.
Admission Requirements
NO GRE or Entrance Exam Required
Earned bachelor's in nursing degree from a regional accredited college or university and an NLNAC or CCNE accredited Nursing program;
- Completion of an approved statistics and nursing research course with grades of C
or better;
Licensed as a Registered Nurse; - Be formally admitted to Northeastern State University and the Graduate College by submitting an application and official transcripts to the Graduate College;
- Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale on all undergraduate course work attempted or a 3.0 GPA based on a 4.0 scale in the nursing major of the bachelor degree; Submit GRE or Miller's Analogy test scores that are no more than 5 years old by the end of the first semester (no minimum score requirement; scores may be used to differentiate between applicants as necessary or determine admission to the Master's of Science in Nursing program)

Admission Requirements
- Earned associate degree of nursing from an accredited college AND an ACEN or NEA accredited program; AND a non-nursing bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university; AND course work of NURS 3003 Professional Nursing Role, NURS 3053 Health Assessment, and NURS 4115 Community Nursing with grades of “C” or better in each course
- Completion of an approved statistics and nursing research course with grades of “C” or better;
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse;
- Be formally admitted to Northeastern State University and the Graduate College by submitting an application and official transcripts to the Graduate College;
- Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale on all undergraduate coursework attempted or a 3.0 GPA based on a 4.0 scale in the nursing major of the bachelor degree.
Graduation Requirements
Completion of coursework and practicum with a 3.0 GPA or better within 6 years of the completion of the first course.

This program does not prepare individuals for licensure. As a prerequisite for admission to the MSN Program, applicants must be a licensed registered nurse.
