Bobby Brewer

Bobby Brewer's artistic development was influenced by one of his first major gigs working with Los Angeles studio musician Jay Daversa and jazz legend, drummer Shelley Manne.  In the mid 1980's he ended up in Los Angeles working with jazz greats such as Roger Kelloway, John Guerin, Shelley Manne and studying guitar with the legendary Ted Greene, author of Chord Chemistry, Modern Progressions for Jazz Guitar, and The Art of Jazz Guitar Soloing.  Bobby was also mentored by studio guitar legend Tommy Tedesco.

 

During the 1990's Bobby lived in Nashville, and was a part time member of country guitar legend Jerry Reed's band.  He also was on staff at Full House recording studio as a guitarist on studio demos and as an engineer and producer for recording sessions.  He performed with many country artists over the period of 15 years and also appeared in the film The Dottie West Story.  Credits in Nashville include performances with Jeanne C. Riley, Bluegrass Legend, Bill Munroe, Ronnie Stoneman.

 

Brewer's work as an educator began as a guitar instuctor at Edmond Music in Edmond, Oklahoma.  After attending UCO for two years in the early 1980s, he became the jazz guitar instructor there for two semesters before moving to Los Angeles to work professionally as a guitarist.  Brewer continues to teach as a clinician and private instructor.  He has participated in clinics for UCO, the "Guitar Society" in Bradford PA., with Los Angeles drummer, Dave Anderson, and a Gibson guitar clinic with Tommy Tedesco in Albany NY.  He recently served for three years as faculty guitar instructor at C.H.A.S.E, a christian home school academy in Mastersonville PA and private instruction at Menchey Music; a large music store chain in South Central Pennsylvania.  He is a lifetime member of the Guitar Society of Pennsylvania.

 

Brewer has been featured in national publications, Guitar World magazine, reviews in Vintage Guitar magazine and features in Saxophone Journal and Bassics Magazine.  With a range of styles such as Jazz, Blues, Country, Big Band and R&B, Bobby continues to perform with his own group and with many different artists in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City area, including a recent performance at the UCO jazz lab with Los Angeles-based drummer David Anderson.  Bobby is also the author of Jazz Fusion Unleashed (MMO CD 2033)  a guitar play-a-long book published by and available from Music Minus One.
