Mikel Combs is the manager of the Jazz Lab and lecturer of music at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. He received his BM and MM in jazz studies from the University of North Texas. He is a versatile acoustic and electric bassist and has performed extensively in New York, Los Angeles, throughout the Midwest, and the D/FW metroplex.
Mikel has recorded, performed, and appeared with nationally known artists such as Rodney Holmes, Keith Carlock, Jimi Tunnell, Allan Holdsworth, Mario Cruz, Lynn Seaton, Wayne Delano, Dennis Durick (Dave Liebman), Chris Potter, Bruce Foreman, Steve Davis, Ari Hoenig, Chad Wackerman, and Ronald Shannon Jackson. He has studied with Lynn Seaton, Jeff Andrews, Jeff Bradetich, Mike Pope, Drew Gress, and Jimmy Charlsen (Carl Filipiak, Dennis Chambers). His strengths as a musician and manager draw from his 20 year experience as a freelance bassist, pedagogue, and academic.
