OK-AR MAA Annual Section Meeting

Since 1969, each spring the Oklahoma-Arkansas section of the Mathematical Association of America has had their annual meeting on the campus of a select college/university in the two-state region. The meeting features a number of outstanding guest lectures by notable speakers from around the nation. There are also numerous smaller parallel sessions featuring topics like math education, undergraduate research, and general mathematical research.

Each year many of the Mathematics and Computer Science faculty travel for this meeting, with the latest exception being in spring 2007 when we had the privilege of hosting this annual meeting, and try to bring interested students to enjoy the festivities.

In spring 2011, the section offered the 3rd annual student competition (featuring both a team competition, in a classic "Jeopardy" format, as well as an individual integration bee) for which we had five students that competed. We had one student, Wen Shao, who tied for third place in the integration bee as well as one of our two teams came one question away from advancing to round two in the math jeopardy competition.

This was our most successful showing at the student competition and we hope for even better performances in the years to come. We will again take student teams for the competition for the 2012 meeting at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR. So, if you are interested mathematics student then please contact the department faculty for more information.
