Music Theory II (Aural)
Mezzo-Soprano Shannon Melody Unger has performed with the Lyric Opera Cleveland, Santa Fe Opera, Austin Lyric Opera Company and was a founding member and director of the New Voices Opera Company in Canada. As a concert soloist she has appeared with the Minneapolis Bach Festival, the Idlewild Bach Festival, the Orchestra of Northern New York, the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, the Rochester Oratorio Chorus and Orchestra, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and Rhodes Chorale, the Regina Symphony Orchestra and Oratorio Choir, and the Winnipeg Baroque Ensemble. Ms. Unger completed a national internship with the National Association of Teachers of Singing and has taught at SUNY Potsdam, Rhodes College, and the International Summer Vocal program in Aviero, Portugal. Ms Unger earned academic degrees at the University of Manitoba (B. M.), University of Minnesota (M. M.), and is currently completing her D.M.A. at the University of Memphis. Competition awards include the Metropolitan Opera Competition Districts and Regionals, the Klose-Siebold Competition (Cincinnati College-Conservatory) and the CIBC National Music Competition in Canada. While an Artist Diploma (Opera) student at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory, Ms. Unger performed leading roles in The Ballad of Baby Doe and The Crucible. Festival credits include the Aspen, Banff and Tanglewood Summer Music Festivals. Ms. Unger is very pleased to join the faculty at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma and is very grateful to the teachers, mentors, and colleagues who have generously offered their support.
