Roy Smith is currently principal percussionist with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. He served as principal percussionist with the Tulsa Philharmonic for 28 years. He is also principal percussionist of Tulsa Opera and Tulsa Ballet Orchestra. He is originally from New Jersey and received his undergraduate degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts. He has been on the faculty, as percussion instructor, at Oral Roberts University for the past 36 years. For the past 26 years, he has served at Tulsa University as Percussion Instructor. He has been on faculty at Northeastern State University, as percussion instructor, for 12 years.  His former teachers have included Vic Firth,  Boston Symphony, Fred Buda, Berklee College of Music, and Charles Smith, Boston Symphony.  In June and July, he serves as Principal Percussion of the  Look Festival Orchestra and has done so for 27 years.
