The Transportation Corps is responsible for moving supplies, troops and equipment anywhere on the globe. During war, the Transportation Corps utilizes trucks, boats and airplanes to provide extremely fast support to the combat teams on the frontlines. Transportation Officers are experts in the systems, vehicles and procedures of moving troops and supplies in the Army.
The responsibilities of a Transportation Lieutenant may include:
- Commanding and controlling Transportation operations and combined armed forces during land combat.
- Coordinate employment of Transportation Soldiers at all levels of command, from platoon to battalion and higher, in U.S. and multi-national operations.
Advanced Responsibilities
Transportation Officers may continue in the Operations career field, serving in the Transportation Corps at ever increasing levels of leadership and responsibility. Upon completion of the Captains Career Course, Transportation Officers become Logistics Officers. As Logistics Officers, they become well-rounded in other logistical subjects such as supply, maintenance, health service support, ammunition, field services, fuel and water operations, and contracting.
Responsibilities of a Transportation Captain may include:
- Commanding and controlling company-sized Transportation and Logistics operations in units (200-300 Soldiers).
- Coordinate employment of Transportation Soldiers at all levels of command, from company to division level and beyond, in U.S. and multi-national operations.
- Develop doctrine, organizations and equipment for unique Transportation and Logistics missions.
- Provide instruction on Transportation vehicles and systems at service schools and combat training centers.
- Serve as a Transportation advisor to other units, including Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve organizations.
