The Department of Health and Kinesiology strives to develop, through wellness clinics and academic courses in physical education and health education, an appreciation for the rules and laws of exercise and healthy living in a complex society.
The department oversees two undergraduate programs: Health and physical education, and health and human performance. The health and physical education degree prepares teachers and coaches for K-12 schools. The majority of the majors seek and find teaching opportunities in Oklahoma and surrounding states. The health and human performance degree combines a broad science background with health and wellness interests. Graduates are employed in corporate settings, private fitness clubs and organizations, hospitals, health intervention programs and as consultants.
The department also offers a master's degree in kinesiology. The graduate program facilitates the continuing professional development of practicing health professionals and physical education teachers. The program offers flexibility in program design to meet the diverse professional development needs of those who participate. A capstone experience provides the opportunity for master's candidates to complete a research-based project.
