Dr. Shannon L. Bridgmon earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Alabama in 2009. Her degrees include a B.A. in History (1998) and a Master of Public Administration (2000) from the University of Alabama. Prior to earning her doctorate, Bridgmon spent several years working in the public sector. She has worked in local government and also served in public management positions coordinating and directing aging services programs in Virginia. Her expertise in grantwriting has resulted in almost $1 million in awarded program grants.
Her primary research areas are Southern politics and state political party issues. She has recently published articles in the American Review of Politics and the Criminal Justice Policy Review. Other research projects have examined party responsibility in various policy areas, state party legislative performance, foreign aid in the international system, and the Alabama Constitution of 1901. Since 2003, Bridgmon has taught at James Madison University, the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa), and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
