Dr. Shannon L. Bridgmon is an Associate Professor of Political Science. Her degrees include a Ph. D. in political science (2009), a B.A. in History (1998) and a Master of Public Administration (2000), all from the University of Alabama. She has worked in local government and also served in public management positions, where her expertise in grantwriting has resulted in over $1 million in awarded program grants.
Dr. Bridgmon’s primary research areas are Southern politics and state political party issues. She is a regular contributor to publications and forums dedicated to examining and analyzing Alabama politics. She has also published articles in the American Review of Politics and the Criminal Justice Policy Review. She teaches courses in American politics, public policy and administration, and international relations. Prior to joining the NSU faculty, Dr. Bridgmon taught at James Madison University, the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa), and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
