Individuals earn certification by successfully completing two courses, the Online Educator Certification Courses Parts 1 and 2 (OEC 1 and OEC 2). All faculty who teach online or blended courses should have Part 1 completed before teaching online. Part 2 should be completed during the first semester of teaching online. Online Educators Certificate Policy.
These courses are required for anyone who teaches any online or blended courses at NSU, and recommended for anyone who teaches at NSU or manages an organization in Blackboard.
I already completed one or both of the Quality Matters courses. Do I still have to earn NSU's Online Educator Certification?
Yes. All faculty who teach online or blended courses must complete NSU's Online Educator Certification.
How do I register for the courses?
To register for the Part 1, please go to the OEC Part 1 Registration page and rank your top three choices for the month in which you would like to take the course.
To register for the Part 2, please go to the OEC Part 2 Registration page and rank your top three choices for the month in which you would like to take the course.
The CTL will notify you via a calendar invitation once you have been enrolled in a cohort. You must register yourself. A CTL member cannot register you.
How do I pass the courses?
OEC Part 1: You must earn at least an 85% on each of the quizzes to complete the OEC 1 course. You may retake the quizzes as often as you need to in order to achieve this score.
OEC Part 2: You must submit work samples and participate in active learning activities to demonstrate your ability to complete several aspects of course design, earning at least an 85% on each required element.
Yes. To "test out" of the Part 1 course you must contact the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and request the "test out" option. CTL will notify you via email that you are enrolled in the course. You are required to pass all module quizzes with a collective score of 85% or better. You will have one attempt to show your proficiency. After completing the quizzes you will be asked to demonstrate your ability to complete a few practical functions within Blackboard. The instructor will review your quiz scores and your proficiency, provide feedback and inform you of your completion status.
The "test out" option of the Part 2 course is still in development.
