Dr. Jennifer Edwards

Dr. Jennifer Edwards received a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from California State University, Stanislaus. She earned a Master's degree in Criminology from California State University, Fresno and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Oklahoma State University. Upon completion of her coursework at OSU, Dr. Edwards spent a year at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she taught various sociology and criminal justice courses and served as a consultant for a community sentencing program. She joined the faculty at Northeastern State University in 2003.

Dr. Edwards' teaching interests include social psychology, research methods, urban sociology, criminology, and sociology of gender. Her research interests include investigating the nature of intergroup conflict and the relationship between ritual and power in various cultural settings. Dr. Edwards maintains an active research agenda, focusing on intergroup conflict and the ritual of parading in Northern Ireland.

Dr. Edwards is a full time faculty member at NSU. She also serves as the Coordinator of the Sociology Program and the Director of the Center for Women's and Gender Studies.


Dr. Adam Langsam

Dr. Langsam arrived at Northeastern State University in August of 2000. His area of expertise is crime and deviance, specializing in corrections, criminological theory, juvenile delinquency, and consensual crime. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice (corrections) from the University of North Texas in 1988. His education continued with obtaining a Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a focus on corrections and rehabilitation. From there, Dr. Langsam studied five years at one of the top criminal justice education facilities in the world: George John Beto School of Criminal Justice, located in Huntsville, Texas. Upon completion of 36 doctoral hours in criminology, multivariate statistics, police administration and management, law, and research methods, Dr. Langsam returned home to his alma mater where he earned a full doctorate education in Sociology.


Dr. Ande Kidanemariam

Dr. Ande Kidanemariam is a professor of Sociology. He received his Ph.D. degree in Sociology from the University of Kentucky and hi Master's degree in Sociology from Michigan State University.

His research specialization is in the areas of medical sociology, political economy, and social inequality with special emphasis on infant and child mortality, health and healthcare policies, and the pattern of the distribution of development benefits and its effects on health and welfare outcomes in developing countries.

In 2003 his book A Comparative Study of Infant Mortality in Four Countries: Bangladesh, Brazil, South Korea, and Sri Lanka was published.

Most recently, his article The Promotion of Health and the Prevention of Disease in Africa: A Quest for an Integrated Model that appeared in the Journal of Third World Studies (JTWS) was hailed as the best article on Africa published in JTWS in 2011 and won the Lawrence Dunbar Reddick Memorial Scholarship Award in October 2012. The award was given by the Association of Third World Studies.

Lastly, his research attention has turned to the effects of globalization on health and disease in Africa.

Dr. Kidanemariam continues to keep an active an on-going research agenda in the aforementioned research areas of interest.

In 2004, Dr. Kidanemariam was the recipient of an award for teaching excellence from Who's Who Among America's Teachers.

Dr. Kidanemariam served as the sole Program Coordinator of the Health Care Administration (HCA) from 2001-2009 before the program moved to the College of Business and Technology at the end of 2009.

Dr. Kidanemariam's areas of teaching interest include medical sociology, sociological theory, gerontology, social inequality/social stratification, family sociology, environmental sociology, death and dying and social statistics. He teaches both online and face-to-face courses both on the Tahlequah and Broken Arrow campuses.
