Dr. Samuel Asante, Ph.D., MSW is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Work with concentration in aging from the University of Utah, and MSW with concentration in aging and health, also from the University of Utah. His research work primarily takes place at the intersection of aging, health and well-being, and the social environment. With a primary research agendum that focuses on social networks relationships, and isolation/loneliness and their influence on health and well-being of older people, his research aims at understanding the mechanisms by which social relationships (or the lack thereof) impact health and well-being, with the objective to inform practice and policy. He is experienced in working with large data and national longitudinal surveys. Part of his work with older adults has been community focused, where he conducts life review exercises with older adults with the purpose of helping older adults find hope, value, and meaning in their lives.
