Frequently Asked Questions

Individuals earn certification by successfully completing two courses, the Online Educator Certification Courses Parts 1 and 2 (OEC 1 and OEC 2). All faculty who teach online or blended courses should have Part 1 completed before teaching online. Part 2 should be completed during the first semester of teaching online. Online Educators Certificate Policy. 

These courses are required for anyone who teaches any online or blended courses at NSU, and recommended for anyone who teaches at NSU or manages an organization in Blackboard.

Yes. All faculty who teach online or blended courses must complete NSU's Online Educator Certification.

To register for the OEC 1, please fill out the Workshop and Event Registration form and rank your top three choices for the month in which you would like to take the course.

To register for the OEC 2, please go to the Workshop and Event Registration form and rank your top three choices for the month in which you would like to take the course.

You must register yourself. An NSU Online member cannot register you.

OEC 1: You must earn at least an 85% on each of the quizzes to complete the OEC 1 course. You may retake the quizzes as often as you need to in order to achieve this score.

OEC 2: You must submit work samples and participate in active learning activities to demonstrate your ability to complete several aspects of course design, earning at least an 85% on each required element.

Yes. To "test out" of OEC 1 complete the Workshop and Event Registration form. Select OEC 1 then Next. Select Test Out Option then Submit. An Instructional Designer from NSU Online will set an appointment for the two of you to work through the process.  The "test out" option of the OEC 2 course is still in development.
