Costume Contest!
October 2017 is a fun month at Cappi Wadley. We'll be holding a costume contest on the 30th and 31st of this month all day long. Anyone is welcome to come even if they don't have tutoring that day. We also are having candy and treats. Your pictures will be taken and then judged by various College of Education faculty and staff. We will notify you by calling your parents. We look forward to seeing you.

Family Literacy Night with Tim Tingle

We'll be holding our next Family Literacy Night on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 6:00-7:00 pm with special guest speaker Tim Tingle, author and storyteller. A Storytelling Concert presented by Cherokee Language Programs will be held at NSU's Webb Auditorium following Family Literacy Night. The concert begins at 7:15 pm and features guest speakers Ryan Mackey, Robert Lewis, Les Hannah, and Tim Tingle.

Mr. Bray's Story Inspires Art
After seeing Mr. Bray's story on the CBS evening news, artist Ernie Loganbill was inspired to carve a beautiful walking stick for Ed and a decorative hanging nameplate for Dr. Thompson. Ernie and his wife Carol drove down from Kansas to present Mr. Bray and Dr. Tompson these beautiful pieces. For photos visit the gallery on our Facebook page.

Read Across America - Literacy Alive! Event was a Great Success!
On Friday, March 1, the Wadley Center, in conjunction with Kappa Delta Pi, sponsored a Read Across America event through a Literacy Alive! Grant. Sixty students from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cherokee Elementary and Briggs were our honored guests for this Seussian day.

Students, divided into four groups, participated in two read alouds and activities based on the two books they listened to. Dr. White read his favorite book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, and then helped students create their own oobleck from cornstarch and glue. Yertle the Turtle was read by Dr. Thompson, and students created their own edible turtles afterward. Ms. Massey read The Cat in the Hat. Strawberry banana kabobs resembling the Cat's hat were made and eaten after the story. Finally, Ms. Giese brought The Lorax to life and helped students plant seeds to take home. Tandy Morris provided the activity ideas.

After their two rounds of read alouds, students were treated to Seuss-themed cupcakes and punch. In addition, students were provided with three books to take home and share with their families. The books were donated by Kappa Delta Pi and the Cappi Wadley Reading Center.

Ed Bray and The Cappi Wadley Center Make National News
The inspiring story of Ed Bray, an 89 year old WWII veteran, learning to read with the help of Cappi Wadley Center Director Dr. Tobi Thompson, was featured in the On the Road segment of the CBS Evening News on Friday, March 1, 2013 with a follow up report from KOTV on Monday, March 4, 2013.

Family Literacy Night
On Oct. 30, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, the Capitola Cappi Wadley Reading and Technology Center will be hosting a Family Literacy Night featuring Murv Jacob and Deborah Duvall. Library Book Donations
The John Vaughan Library has graciously donated close to 500 withdrawn books to the Capitola Cappi Wadley Reading and Technology Center. Rosetta Stone Language Software Now Live
Rosetta Stone language learning software is available at the Capitola Cappi Wadley Reading and Technology Center. We currently have Spanish, Japanese and Chinese (Madarin) as well as English for ESL learners. AT&T Foundation donates $20,000 to Wadley Center
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Sept. 11, 2012) -- Through the generosity of the AT&T Foundation, the Capitola Cappi Wadley Center for Reading and Technology at Northeastern State University has been awarded a generous grant. The AT&T Foundation, which awards funds to programs with educational aims such as raising literacy or reducing the high school dropout rate, will give $20,000 to the Wadley Center.

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Aug. 29, 2012) -- A new chapter has begun at Northeastern State University with the opening of the Capitola Cappi Wadley Center for Reading and Technology on Aug. 28. The state-of-the-art facility provides a place where children can overcome reading deficiencies and educators can become better prepared to help them learn to read. It is a story that longtime educator Cappi Wadley would have loved to read.

Opening of Wadley Reading Center is August 28 at NSU
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Aug. 27, 2012) -- An opening ceremony is planned for Northeastern State University's Capitola Cappi Wadley Center for Reading and Technology on August 28 at 4 p.m. in Bagley Hall. Housed on Bagley's third floor, the Wadley Center offers a clinic where children can overcome reading deficiencies through tutoring.

Construction of NSU's 'Cappi' Wadley reading clinic nearing completion
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Feb. 8, 2012) -- A state of the art reading and technology center is set to open at Northeastern State University soon. With the completion of construction expected in mid-March, the Cappitola Cappi Wadley Center for Reading and Technology at Northeastern State University is set to open on the third floor of Bagley Hall.
