Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies
The Communication Studies program at Northeastern State University offers you the opportunity to specialize in Communication in Relationships or Corporate Communication. There is also a structured minor in Leadership Communication.
Along with excellent classroom instruction, our award winning students have the opportunity to hone their communication skills in a variety of applied settings. The program houses the Communication Lab and the Forensics (Speech and Debate) Team.
If you are interested in a career in a communication-related field, the Communication Studies program has a place for you.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Develop and deliver different types of assessed oral presentations.
- Reduce the level of speech anxiety.
- Formulate communication strategies that acknowledge the diverse characteristics within a global society.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify significant ethical issues within communication contexts.
- Construct speech acts within a variety of contexts that allows for constructive conflict and disagreement.
- To present intellectual product in public forums.
- Explain, predict, and/or control a variety of communication events by evoking relevant communication theories.

The 12-hour Presentation Design and Delivery certificate offers strategies to improve general public speaking and persuasion skills as well as innovative techniques exploring presentations in the 21st century. The certification will improve speaking confidence, establish presentation design fundamentals, and implement delivery strategies focused on effective messages to specific audiences.

The 12-hour Collaborative Communication in the Workplace certificate explores working together with individuals and groups to achieve a common goal. Efficient 21st century collaborative communication is examined through achievement of outcomes,
problem-solving, active listening, fulfilling group roles, and consideration of diverse perspectives.
