Homecoming

In 1924, NSU hosted its first-ever homecoming. One hundred years later, NSU and the Alumni Association invite you to return to NSU for the centennial celebration - Forever Green.

Child Care Training Certificate Program

Certificate Description

The courses will provide for 160 clock hours of training (equivalent to 16 CEU units)  The Instructional Units will focus on the Growth and Development of Young Children (Physical, Social,
Emotional, Cognitive & Literacy); the Impact of Family and
Community on Children; Child Care Professionalism; Effective
Program Planning and Administration; Safety, Health, and Nutrition of Young Children; Student and Program Assessment; and Child Guidance. An electronic badge and Certificate of completion shall be awarded to all completers of the program

Students going through Cherokee Nation will need to select Invoice Me as their payment option.

Enrollment Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited and recognized institution by the U.S. Department of Education and submit documentation as proof.
  • Must have access to a computer and printer.
  • Must have a valid email address. 
  • Must have internet access

Courses Include

Family, Community & Teachers
Students will investigate methods for encouraging respectful, complementary relationships among the community, early care providers, young children, and their families.

Birth to Age 2 Development
Students will create an environment within the child care facility that supports infants’ cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and literacy development.

Meal Planning & Nutrition
Students will promote healthy life style practices of young children by examining the nutritional needs of young children and planning nutritious meals.

Health & Safe Environments
Students will examine outdoor and indoor safety practices while recognizing hazards, reinforcing disease prevention, outlining safe food handling practices, and recognizing signs of neglect and abuse.

Two to Age 3 Development
Students will construct an environment within the child care facility that supports toddlers’ cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and literacy development.

Guiding Behaviors
Students will analyze typical developmental characteristics of young children by incorporating positive guidance strategies.

Four to Age 5 Development
Students will design an environment within the child care facility that supports preschoolers’ cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.

Creative Curriculum Planning & Administration
Students will plan lessons and activities that cater to the developing needs of young children; special emphasis will be placed on developmentally appropriate curriculum, daily routines, transitions, schedules, and fun activities.
