Matt Pinnell was elected as the 17th Lieutenant Governor of the State of Oklahoma on November 6th, 2018. In that role, he serves as President of the Oklahoma State Senate, and is a member of multiple constitutional boards and commissions. Lt. Governor Pinnell also serves as Secretary of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage on Governor Kevin Stitt’s cabinet. In his role as Secretary of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage, Pinnell oversees the Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation and the state’s efforts to promote tourism, the third largest industry in Oklahoma. Pinnell led the successful effort to rebrand the State of Oklahoma, a component of the overall effort to retain and recruit more jobs to the state of Oklahoma.
Pinnell also currently serves on the Department of Commerce executive committee focusing on small business growth, entrepreneurship, and workforce development. Pinnell has a background in entrepreneurship and is a small business owner with his wife, Lisa, who is an inventor and entrepreneur.
Matt is a graduate of Oral Roberts University with a degree in Advertising and lives in Tulsa with his wife and their 4 children who attend Jenks Public Schools.
Ron Painter assumed his role at NAWB in July of 2009. In his capacity as CEO of NAWB, Painter has traveled the country meeting with State and Local workforce leaders in an effort to identify cutting-edge practices and programs and understand how best to spread innovative trends in human capital development throughout the nation-wide job training system. Ron was the founding CEO of the Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board in Pittsburgh, where under his leadership the organization focused on producing labor market research, working with public educators on improved student career information, supporting community leaders in the development of regional benchmarks, and establishing the Regional Workforce Collaborative with a membership of community colleges, WIBs, employers, labor, and economic development professionals. Before joining the Three Rivers Workforce Board, he worked in Washington, DC, first on loan to the U.S. Department of Labor for the Enterprise Project, and then for the National Alliance of Business.
Ron is a Board Member of the Committee for Education Funding, Manufacturing Skills Standards’ Council, and is a Patron of Volition Community for the Manchester Cathedral in Manchester, England.
Mr. Painter holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Grove City College in Pennsylvania and a Master’s in Public Administration and advanced graduate coursework from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public & International Affairs, where he served as Adjunct Faculty.
Dr. Steve Turner began his duties as Northeastern State University’s 19th president on Jan. 1, 2012. In many ways, he is a role model for the regional university system as a nontraditional, first-generation graduate. From his early years spent working in the oil industry to his later college years serving as both student and staffer, Turner worked his way through the ranks to achieve his dreams.
During his tenure, NSU has become stronger in virtually every area of the institution. In 2013, President Turner began the implementation of Destination 2023: A ten-year roadmap of distinction through degree completion, establishing student-centered academics and advisement as top priorities. Improved facility maintenance and new construction, including new housing, a new wellness center, and a 90,000 sq. ft Event Center, has revitalized the Tahlequah campus. The Muskogee campus now has a renewed academic emphasis on allied health care professions with the addition of a major in Occupational Therapy and the new Physician Assistant Studies Program. Several new programs and degrees have been introduced at the Broken Arrow campus that focus on bachelor’s degree completion and master’s degrees.
Under Turner’s leadership, NSU experienced historic fund-raising success with the Preserve Our Past, eNSUre Our Future Campaign. When the five-year campaign ended on Feb. 1, 2020, over $27 million was raised towards the goal of $25,075,000.
President Turner is a proud faculty member for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and has taught at the New Presidents Academy for the past eight years. In addition, for the past five years, he has taught at AASCU’s Millennium Leadership Initiative and the Emerging Leaders Program.
Turner began his higher education journey in 1989 at East Central University, located in Ada, Oklahoma. He served in many capacities, including vice president for administration and finance, executive assistant to the president for governmental relations and economic development and the Thomas Endowed Chair in Human Resources.
He earned his doctorate in adult learning and higher education administration from the University of Oklahoma. He holds a master’s and a bachelor’s degree, both from ECU.
Turner and his wife, Penny, have two sons Matt and Tim, a two daughters-in-law, Kelly and Aleisha, a grandson, Connor, and granddaughter, Chloe. The couple share their lives with Lily, a Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu mix.
