Bachelor of Arts in English
The Generalist track in the Bachelor of Arts in English degree provides a diverse and wide ranging curriculum in literature, composition, and language usage to prepare students for entry into the professional world or graduate study.
The Bachelor of Arts in English TESOL option provides students with foundational understanding of the theories and practices of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages sufficient for use in various teaching contexts domestically and abroad or for further study of language topics. The program promotes a holistic understanding of language, culture, pedagogy, assessment, and professionalism.

Student Learning Outcomes - TESOL
- Understand how language is structured, learned, and used, and will view it as a complex psychological and social system.
- Understand how languages serve communities and individual users, how diverse learners view languages, and how language learning can serve both community use and learner diversity.
- Have sufficient training in modern language instruction theory and practice to orient themselves toward their own areas of interest and to teach English in various contexts both domestically and abroad.
- Use a variety of language assessment strategies to monitor and report learner progress and to adjust instruction accordingly.
- Use reflective and research-driven language teaching practices, develop meaningful and productive professional relationships, and be prepared for additional study or training in language teaching.
Generalist - 18 hrs (4252)
Students must take 3 credit hours from each of the following five categories along with an additional 3 credit hours from any category for a TOTAL of 18 hours.
