The English major is designed to provide a quality undergraduate program in English
in literature, composition, and language usage. NSU's Department of Languages and
Literature offers both a generalist concentration that prepares the student for entry
into the professional world or graduate study on the master's level and a unique Teaching
English as a Second Language (TESOL) concentration focused on teaching and language
proficiency.
The department is committed to focusing on the cultivation of scholarship, critical
thinking, writing competence, and promotion of a devotion to literature and the use
of written language in all of its programs and lifelong learning.
The degree provides a foundation to produce educated graduates with strong liberal
arts experience who can become valuable citizens in their communities and serve as
a resource in their communities.
