Jazz Lab Facilities

facilitiesThe lobby area was designed in a style reminiscent of the New Orleans' French Quarter. The beautiful light fixture was actually, at one time, in the home of Merle Travis, famed guitarist who lived near Tahlequah. The box office, pre-show seating and public restrooms are located in the lobby.

The main room seats approximately 130 cabaret style, 96 on the floor level and 34 in the balcony. The main room also serves as a recital hall for many NSU Music Department and student recitals throughout the Fall and Spring semesters.

Throughout the lobby and main room are several large photographs of artists who have graced the stage of the NSU Jazz Lab. All photos were taken during live performances at the Jazz Lab. Some of these photos are available for viewing in the Past Artist section of this website. (many photos by Mike Brown)

Recent technical upgrades include a fully integrated Music Production Lab, a functional digital studio for recording and mastering (We use a Mac Pro running Digital Performer 7 and Pro Tools). Also, we rewired our recording studio with our two new soundboards, (PreSonus 16.4.2), enabling the Jazz Lab to obtain 32 simultaneous tracks. We also have a 10'x15' isolation booth to enhance the recording experience. Call us to find out how you can record your next album here at the Jazz Lab.

The main hall stage now features new LED par cans controlled by a DMX operator board. A complete sound system upgrade as well as increased acoustical treatments were installed in Spring 2008. In the fall of 2010 we increased our acoustical treatments for the main room to make it more suitable both for live jazz and the community's various needs.

The versatility of the NSU Jazz Lab makes it a popular spot to have a non-musical functions such as wedding receptions and showers, corporate meetings and parties, as well as other community events.
