The Sing Their Songs, Tell Their Stories: Women in Music Vocal Festival is a one-day event dedicated to celebrating the music and contributions of women composers throughout history. With a focus on solo vocal literature, the festival provides a space for students, faculty, and the broader community to explore, perform, and honor women’s voices in music.

How to Apply

Undergraduate and graduate students in music and related fields are invited to apply to present a 15-minute lecture recital. Please submit the following using the link below.

  • A proposal (250–500 words)
  • An audio recording of your proposed lecture recital piece
  • A brief biography (name, academic program, and relevant performance or research experience)

Opportunities for Students

Undergraduate and graduate students in music and related fields are invited to apply to present a 15-minute lecture recital, followed by 5 minutes of audience Q&A. Each lecture recital should feature:

● A performance of one solo vocal work by a female composer.
● A brief lecture contextualizing the composer and piece, exploring its historical, cultural, or musical significance.

Additional Opportunites  

● All selected presenters will participate in a masterclass with Dr. Taylor Hutchinson, vocal coach and pianist at Oklahoma City University.
● The festival will culminate in a celebratory evening recital, featuring all student presenters performing their masterclass pieces.
