Gather Here. Go Far

NSU is where success begins. Here professors know their subjects and how to get you ready for a career after you graduate. We empower individuals to become socially responsible global citizens by creating and sustaining a culture of learning and discovery.

Undergraduate Research Day

Undergraduate Research Day

Each year, NSU celebrates the accomplishments of students and their faculty mentors at NSU Undergraduate Research Day. This event honors excellence in research, scholarship, and creativity by showcasing the endeavors of undergraduate students and their faculty mentors.

Eighteenth Annual NSU Undergraduate Research Day: A Celebration of Scholarly and Creative Activity

Tuesday, April 21, 2020

All undergraduates in good academic standing who are engaged in Research or Creative Activity under the direction of a Faculty Member are eligible and invited to participate (as long as they are currently enrolled in NSU, or graduate no earlier than December 2017). Students may apply in one of three categories: Outstanding Scholar, Poster Presenter, or Panel Discussion. Applications for Outstanding Scholar will be evaluated by a Screening Committee made up of Faculty from the Student's College who will choose one Outstanding Scholar and one runner-up from each College; the Outstanding Scholars will then be asked to give an oral presentation at Undergraduate Research Day. Applications that are not chosen for Outstanding Scholar will be automatically entered into the Poster Presenter category. Applications for Poster Presenter and Panel Discussion will also be evaluated by Screening Committees to ensure that only quality projects that do not duplicate other work and which conform to appropriate ethical standards are presented.

All students who present projects at Undergraduate Research Day will receive a certificate of participation. Outstanding Scholars and their mentors will receive a trophy, and the student will be awarded a $200 cash prize. An additional $50 cash prize and a plaque will be given to the Outstanding Scholar selected as Best Speaker by a panel of judges. The runner-up in the Outstanding Scholar category in each college will receive a plaque and a $100 cash prize. Poster presenters and panel participants will receive a medal. All posters will be automatically entered into the competition for the Sponsor's Award for Best Poster: $100 cash prize for First Place, $75 cash prize for Second Place, $50 cash Prize for Third Place. There will also be a $100 cash prize given to the poster presenter receiving the most votes for the Students Choice award. Other cash prizes may be awarded and will be announced at a later date.

Details and application forms can be found at the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.

Deadline for receipt of application materials: 12:00 noon Friday March 27, 2020
