Keynote Speaker
Marta Perez Drake
For over 30 years, Marta Perez Drake has advocated for the higher education community
in several roles. Since January 2023, Marta has served as the Chief Operating Officer
at AACTE, where she leads all the internal operations of the
association. Prior to this new role, Marta served as Senior Vice President at NACUBO
(National Association of College and University Business Officers), where she worked
for over 15 years. In addition, Marta has worked for several other higher education
associations including the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS), the American Council
on
Education (ACE), and the American Association for Higher Education (AAHE). She also
has worked on two college campuses, in areas such as student, faculty, and academic
affairs, at Duke and Georgetown Universities.
Since January of 2020, Marta has been pursuing her lifelong dream of obtaining and
completing her PhD in Communication Studies. Marta is ABD and currently working on
her dissertation in Organizational Communication from George Mason University. She
has taught courses including “Communication 101,” “Gender Communication,” and
“Organizational Communication.” Marta’s disciplinary focus is on mentoring processes
within organizations, and she also holds a graduate certificate in Women and Gender
Studies.
Marta graduated from Duke University with a BA in Psychology and earned an MA in Communication
Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also completed Georgetown’s
Institute for Transformational Leadership certificate program in 2017 and obtained
her certification as a health and life coach in early 2021.
Marta lives in Denver, CO, with her husband and two rescue dogs named George and Rita.
Marta has two adult children and enjoys walking/hiking with family and friends, reading,
journaling, and trying new recipes.

The theme for this year's conference is "Teaching: A Noble and Inspired Profession".
Conference strands include the following:
Strand I: Celebration of the Teaching Profession
Guiding Questions:
- How do current professional practices build upon, and honor, past and present educators?
- What are ways to unite the many effective practices of the profession?
- What are strategies to celebrate the profession?
- What positive actions are taking place in the profession?
- How to start a campaign to celebrate and elevate the profession?
- What are ways to create narratives about the profession that support effective teaching or educators?
Strand II: Trends & Research in Teaching/Teacher Preparation
Guiding Questions
- What innovative strategies are being used to support innovative teaching?
- What innovative strategies are being used to engage and support all learners?
- What are the trends saying about the teaching field or educator preparation?
- What are the new research topics and actions related to the profession?
- What are the results of research projects conducted in the region, state, etc related to the profession?
- How does current research and its dissemination contribute to the overall status of the profession?
- What knowledge and/or research is available to effectively address public perception and dispel myths about teaching?
- What innovative practices are happening in your institution?
- What are the trends/research with technology to enhance teaching?
Strand III: Enhancing & Advocating for the Field of Teaching
Guiding Questions
- How can educator preparation programs ensure that teachers understand, embrace, and incorporate the perspectives of all communities?
- What can university-based educator preparation programs learn for innovative "grow your own" programs, such as those initiated in other non-higher education providers?
- In what manner are teacher preparation programs adjusting their practice to address the needs of learners in urban, suburban, and/or rural districts?
- How is technology being utilized to enhance the profession?
- How can we build trust and collaboration with all stakeholders?
- What are the effective practices for recruiting and preparing teachers who will persist in the profession, and what role do preparation programs have in providing support for new and current teachers?
- What are effective practices to establish advocacy for the profession at all levels?
- What are ways to unite the many perspectives within the profession to become an effective collective voice?
- How does higher education and common education come together to support the profession?

How can we support effective educators at all levels?
Proposals will be reviewed by the program committee using the following criteria:
Quality of Topic (Purpose): Is the topic of importance, relevance, value, and/or interest to the target audience?
Proposed Topic Coverage: Does the proposal adequately cover content clearly related to the conference theme? Is this topic current or relevant to the field?
Clarity of Proposal: Does the proposal abstract provide an explicit statement of participant outcomes and how they will be achieved?
Speaker Knowledge (Theory, Practice, and/or Research Contribution to the Profession): Does the proposed speaker appear to have sufficient knowledge and expertise to address this topic?
Speaker Presentation Strategy and Style: Does the proposer include specific strategies by which to engage attendees in the session content?
Overall Rating: What is your overall evaluation of this proposal?
Traditional and panel sessions will normally be 50 minutes in length, and depending
on the number of proposals approved for presentation, some presenters may be asked
to join others in a combined session that will require limiting the time of presentation
to about 25 minutes. Paid conference registration is required to obtain final approval
for presentation.
To be considered the Proposal Form should be filled out and submitted via the following
Google Link no later than September 10,2023. Conference organizers will notify those
submitting proposals on the status of the proposal no later than October 2, 2023.

- $100 single day

Q & A
Do you accept purchase orders for the registration?
The way it works is that when you make the purchase you choose invoice me. We send an invoice and you can send a PO and then the payment later.
Do you refund 100% if the conference is cancelled?
Yes. You also get a 100% refund if you cancel BEFORE the conference. If you are simply a no show, there is not a refund.
Do you allow substitutions if the registered person becomes unable to attend?
Yes. Even if it is a last minute substitution, we will accept it. Please do notify us in advance though.
