Clubs and Organizations

From networking to leadership opportunities, NSU’s over 80 clubs and organizations allow our students to build lasting relationships while getting the full college experience.

Transfer Students

Whether you’re an incoming or current transfer student, NSU’s transfer advisors are available to assist you with transcript evaluation, information on degree programs and support services. NSU is where You Belong.

Graduate College

Whether transitioning to graduate school or returning to higher education, NSU’s graduate college is your next step. Choose from over 25 master's degrees and several certificate programs.

CERT Youth Day Camp

*This camp will be held June 2-6 at our Broken Arrow campus for 2025
 
The camp is geared to students who want to help their school and family become more prepared for emergency situations. Students will learn about community action planning and gain basic emergency response skills. At the end of the camp, all participants, including adult chaperones, will get a 20-hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) certificate.
 

The camp is a great chance for students to develop leadership capabilities while having fun. They will leave with the basic life skills needed to improve the safety and resilience in their homes, schools, and communities. Preparing these students is the greatest gift we can give them.

Dates: June 2-6. 2025

Times: 8:00 - 5:00

Grades: 9th - 12th 

Bring your own lunch.

Snacks and Water will be provided.

Camp T-shirt will be provided.

Workbook and CERT Backpack are provided

Limited to the first 30 registrations.

Completion of this Certification is good for 3 credit hours in the Certificate of Emergency Management & Planning program and/or the Homeland Security & Emergency Management degree program at NSU.

Volunteer Information

If you would like to volunteer please sign up at the link below. All volunteers will receive the certification as well. All volunteers are subject to a background check. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt and workbook. 

Completion of this Certification is good for 3 credit hours in the Certificate of Emergency Management & Planning program and/or the Homeland Security & Emergency Management degree program.

About the Oklahoma Youth Preparedness Council:

Since 2019, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security have worked with local emergency managers, tribes, volunteer agencies, youth and FEMA Region 6 to develop the Oklahoma Youth Preparedness Council. The council educates Oklahoma youth in emergency preparedness to develop future generations of resilient adults.

 

Instructor Bios

David Grizzle:

Emergency Management Coordinator

City of Norman Oklahoma

David R. Grizzle is currently employed by the City of Norman Oklahoma as the Emergency Management Coordinator. David is an active member of the U.S. Army Reserves. David’s background in emergency operations comes from fourteen years of assignment to the Oklahoma Military Department Office of Military Support as a Plans and Operations Officer and current employment with the City of Norman as the Emergency Management Coordinator.  David has been awarded the State of Oklahoma Certified Emergency Manager designation in 2005.  He has completed the requirements to be a trainer in various emergency management areas to include the Citizen’s Emergency Response Team and the National Incident Management System-Incident Command System. David is also an amateur radio operator.

Laura Weaver:

Born and raised in Texas, Laura moved to Hawaii in 1999. While there, she was very involved with the Islands Emergency Management program. As a volunteer reservist with the city and county of Honolulu, she worked side-by-side with first responders and teaching emergency rescue to the public. Laura has experience in various areas of emergency preparedness and community involvement and has instructed many community preparedness groups. Laura currently volunteers with local public safety/service agencies. Medical Reserve Corp, Homeland Security, City of Norman Emergency Mgmt. and OKC Fire Corp are a few. Laura is certified in and has taught a variety of other classes besides CERT including Scuba, IT Network and Security, and Design Thinking. She believes Knowledge is Power and Being Prepared-not Scared is important in a crisis situation.

Steven Hutson:

Steven holds a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security (Fall 2024) and an Emergency Management and Planning Certificate (Fall 2024) from Northeastern State University in Broken Arrow, OK, and is pursuing a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice specializing in Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

Steven is an authorized OSHA instructor through the University of Texas Arlington and instructs for Tulsa Technology Center (TTC) and Kiamichi Vo-Tech Schools, providing hazwoper, permit-required confined space, and OSHA training across Eastern Oklahoma. Steven has been a certified CBRN / C-WMD hazardous materials instructor for U.S. Homeland Security at the Center for Domestic Preparedness, Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training, and with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) serving in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe to build and deliver curriculum, hazmat-capable personnel, and the ability to sustain training through train-the-trainer programs.
