Our Bachelor of Science in Psychology is one of the university's most popular majors. Our graduates have gone on to obtain employment in higher education, counseling, health professions, case management, therapy, and many more. Many of our graduates go on to attend Graduate School in Psychology and/or Counseling. A degree in Psychology is recommended for any student interested in learning about, and working with, other individuals.

A psychology degree prepares students to pursue careers in both liberal arts and scientific fields, depending on personal interests. Common career paths for individuals who comlete the degree include careers in public and private healthcare, education, mental health support, social work, therapy, and counseling. Many of these careers require advanced preparation for licensure and credentialing, and the bachelor’s degree provides a strong foundation for future study. NSU’s undergraduate degree consists of 25 hours of required psychology courses, in which a minimum “C” grade is required in each course, and 18 hours of upper level (3000/4000) psychology electives for a total of 43 hours.  Psychology majors are required to select a minor consisting of 18 hours in a discipline other than psychology or a second major.

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate familiarity with major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology.
2. Understand and apply basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data analysis, and interpretation.
3. Respect and use critical and creative thining, skeptical inquiry, and, when possible, the scientific approach to solve programs related to behavior and mental processes.
4. Demonstrate information competence and the ability to use computers and other technology for many purposes.
5. Communicate effectively in a variety of formats.
6. Recognize, understand, and respect the complexity of socio-cultural and international diversity.
